Challan Hall

Silverdale, Lancashire
Bed & Breakfast

Lovely views and stunning sunsets close to the Lakes - only the wind in the trees and birdsong disturbs the peace. Rooms are freshly floral

2 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

The wind in the trees, the boom of a bittern and birdsong. That’s as noisy as it gets. On the edge of the village, delightful Charlotte’s former farmhouse overlooks woods and Haweswater Reservoir; deer, squirrels and Leighton Moss Nature Reserve are your neighbours. The Cassons are well-travelled and the house, filled with a colourful collection of mementos, is happily and comfortably traditional. Expect a sofa-strewn sitting room, a smart red and polished-wood dining room and two freshly floral bedrooms (one with a tiny shower room). Morecambe Bay and the Lakes are on the doorstep – come home to lovely views and stunning sunsets.

We stayed at Challan Hall for two nights. It was a beautiful location and Charlotte and Mike went out of their way to make us very welcome. A lovely room with beautiful views and excellent breakfasts and evening meal. Thank so much for making our stay so comfortable and relaxing

Margaret, Winchester

Very welcoming, refreshments on arrival including the most wonderful sticky toffee pudding with cream. Excellent room/facilities/breakfast. Lovely to have use of the most comfortable sitting room with wonderful view towards Hawes Water. A great place to go and would definitely go again.

Victoria, Oakham, rutland

Had a really good stay here the bedroom was very clean and warm. Amazing house with lots of books to look at in the living room whilst drinking your cup of tea and biscuits on arrival. Very good breakfast couldnt have asked for more. Thank you for your kindness

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Charlotte Casson

  • The area is a nature lovers' paradise! A half mile walk takes you to Leighton Moss RSPB Bird Sanctuary. Home to a myriad number of birds including the elusive Bittern and the glorious Bearded Tits. Otters and deer are familiar friends here.
  • From our sitting room or patio (for an alfresco breakfast weather permitting) the stunning view is over Lake Haweswater, where Marsh Harriers nest and hunt, and where the local Osprey pair come to fish. Relax, bring binoculars and enjoy the view!
  • Gait Barrows AONB Nature Reserve is on our doorstep - literally! Wonderful wooded walks through the limestone pavements with ferns and bonsaid trees. May/June finds the rare Lady Slipper Orchid in bloom, and other rare plants such as the Birdseye Primrose.
  • Within a mile is Morecambe Bay with its sunsets and views across to the Lakeland hills. Morecambe has, of course, its famous son and the iconic art deco Midland Hotel.
  • Within 5/6miles are historic Levens Hall with its famous Topiary Garden, Leighton Hall (home of the Gillow family) and Sizergh Castle. Further into the south Lakes you will find Holker Hall and Gardens and close by the historic Cartmel Priory.
  • Historic Lancaster and Kendal towns within 12 miles, and half an hour takes you into the South Lakes. Excellent golf courses abound in the area including Silverdale which boasts one of the 100 Extraordinary Golf Holes - The Plateau!
