This peaceful country house sits in six acres of paddock and flowery gardens. You stay in the charming annexe and have your own entrance. There’s a large, sunny living space opening to a terrace, with comfy sofas by the wood-burner, a polished table in the window, a pretty painted dresser. Amanda leaves you a generous continental breakfast – cereals, yogurts, local jams, fresh bread, pastries. Wye has vintage and farmers’ markets and you can walk from the door on to the North Downs Way. Further afield are Canterbury, Leeds Castle, Sissinghurst and many stately homes. It’s a perfect weekday pad if you’re working in the area too. Return to your elegant bedroom upstairs with a king-size double bed and wide countryside views.

Thank you very much for a lovely stay. We love the house, the private cosy lounge and the super tasty continental breakfast, the quality which you would hardly get in the continent. And the garden and the view, and the big soft towels. Also a great place to explore Kent and its hidden gems like Chilham and the Compasses Inn. We'll come again!

With refined taste, artistic flair and a strong sense of making a comfortable and welcoming environment, A-J has created the perfect retreat in the Kent countryside. Thank you for the delightful personal touches which have made our holiday both happy and memorable.

I've been holidaying in UK bed and breakfasts since 1979. This was arguably the best. Thanks for the rose outside the front window! Magnificent.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Amanda-Jane Amiss

  • Our Georgian farmhouse is down a tranquil lane the outskirts of Wye. Walk through fields into the village to find 3 great pubs serving food and local beer, plus a Spanish restaurant and tapas bar that serves the best gin and tonic ever!
  • A beautiful 4 mile walk from the house takes you up the Devils Kneading Trough for impressive views across the chalk downland and out to the sea. This area is a precious wildlife reserve and home to the Wye Memorial Crown. Finish the walk in pretty Wye.
  • We are just 11 miles from the Channel Tunnel, pop over the France for the day! Enjoy lunch, shopping and beaches on a refreshing mini-break near Calais.
  • Treat yourself at Champney's Spa on the beautiful Eastwell Manor Estate – relax at the newly updated facilities or dine at the manor's fine restaurant.
  • Great shopping opportunities at the nearby Ashford designer outlet. Canterbury is 11 miles away with it's historic cathedral, waterways, restaurants and high-end shops.
  • Within easy reach of the interesting coastal towns of Whitstable, Faversham, Margate, Folkestone and Hythe. All packed with antiques, collectables and quirky shops. Perfect if you're craving some typical British seaside culture!
