The
Experience

Watch the yachts go by from this elegant townhouse on the waterfront. A welcoming drink and chat with Richard in the drawing room sets you up well: antiques, oil paintings, a bevy of guitars, family photos โ€“ and stunning views. Bedrooms (one downstairs) have WiFi, home-baked biscuits, cosy well-dressed beds. Kate’s a marine artist and gives you breakfast looking over the water: lots of choice, homemade marmalade, Bucks Fizz too; if you’re an early bird you can help yourself to a continental spread. Between the two main marinas and close to the high street, so shops, bars and restaurants (as well as Southampton ferry) are all a saunter.

Reviews

Great host and hostess. Tremendously entertaining. Beautiful house. Perfect location. Very comfortable room. Superb breakfasts.

Shaun, London

Kate and Richard are excellent and hospitable hosts. Our room was very comfortable and we were impressed with the attention to detail. Warm home baked biscuits that melt in your mouth and a glass of wine in the kitchen before we went out for the evening. Also in the house is Myrtle, a dog with character, keeping us entertained. We loved the house and thoroughly recommend a stay there. Kate and Mark.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Kate Gough

  • The house was built in 1752 and is reputed to be the birthplace of Thomas Arnold, the first headmaster of Rugby School. It could therefore be said that Westbourne House is the birthplace of the game of rugby.
  • It was also briefly the home of Uffa Fox, the famous Cowes yacht designer responsible for such designs at the Flying Fifteen. Cowes town centre, two marinas and the various yacht clubs are close by.
  • Within a few minutes walk are many restaurants offering everything from a traditional fish and chip supper to fine dining.
  • Cowes High Street is primarily a pedestrian zone with many individual shops and The Prospect Maritime Museum which is a unique private collection of sailing history. Osborne House in East Cowes is a must for first time visitors to the Island.
  • Amongst other things, the Needles, Carisbrooke Castle, dinosaurs, steam railway, Roman ruins, a garlic farm and 700 miles of footpaths and bridleways make the Isle of Wight a unique destination.
  • By car, bicycle, bus or foot, the island's many attractions are easily accessible. There is something for everyone. If coming to the Island for game shooting, we do have a locked gun cabinet at your disposal.
