It’s blissful here in the tumbledown charm of Hayley and Rob’s 15th-century farmhouse and smallholding. It’s a peaceful patch with dogs, hens and pigs, so you can absorb a little of the rural way of life. Vegetable plots are burgeoning, water comes from a bore hole and you’ll feel far away from the grind of the city.
Bookish types will head off to Hay-on-Wye, foodies to Ludlow, walkers to the hills. There are farmers’ markets in almost every village and canoes to hire at Glasbury for navigating the river Wye. The gateway to the Brecon Beacons is a short drive for those who like their hikes long and bracing.
Hayley and Rob are a foodie pair and can sell you meat from their rare breed Oxford Sandy & Black pigs and Ryeland sheep. Eat around the big wooden table, snuggle into deep sofas. A bottle of local Dunkerton’s cider will wash it all down nicely.
