The
Experience

Rick and Andrea have filled their Georgian townhouse with colour and music. Find maps, etchings, books, flowers and teapots on mantelpieces; Rick’s chic-upcycling includes a headboard from old doors. Your cosy bedroom at the top has its own sitting room next door; your friendly Dutch hosts leave you a carafe of port and brimming trolley of nice things; Japanese-style foldaway beds can be set up for a child or extra guests. Breakfast on delicious choices: organic bacon and sausages, veggie and vegan options; Andrea can do high tea of savoury and sweet treats, and dinner too. Hereford Cathedral, swimming pool, park, shops: all a stroll away.

Reviews

St Martin's B&B is a gem. Andrea and Rick are wonderfully kind and generous hosts. Perfect location, very central, but quiet, 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral. The house is just exquisite, absolutely gorgeous, full of character and style. The little suite at the top of the house is very well appointed with every comfort and convenience, and is both cosy and wonderfully spacious; wish we'd had more time to enjoy the sitting room full of books. Breakfast was delicious. I really did not want to leave and cannot recommend this place enough.

We received a warm welcome along with a pot and tea and some delicious flapjack when we arrived at St Martin’s B and B. Andrea and Rick are friendly, helpful and thoughtful hosts. Our room was comfortable and the sitting room next door was a lovely space with snacks and drinks in ready supply. The breakfasts were delicious. We really enjoyed our stay and we highly recommend a visit.

Everything about the place was marvelous: our hosts are charming and thoughtful. Their home likewise - and tasteful. We have travelled a lot; this stay will rank as one of the nicest place we have experienced. Oh, and the breakfast was great too!

Fantastic place. The house was decorated with love and beautiful things which together provided an inspirational home to stay in. Andrea is a brilliant cook and dinner in their garden is a memory I will treasure. Thank you Rick and Andrea x

Beautiful and interesting house. Fabulously comfortable 'suite' at top of house. We really enjoyed the 'plant eaters' meal although not vegetarians ourselves. Rick kindly offered to pick us up from the end of our walk. A lovely weekend.

Miriam, Cardiff

we spent three very happy days with Rick and Andrea in August . The house is delightful, bedroom very comfortable indeed and we enjoyed having a private sitting room next to our bedroom. The shower room is spacious and very well fitted out. Breakfast was delicious. It was the perfect place to stay whilst looking at churches in Herefordshire and of course the Cathedral and the Mappa Mundi. We would certain stay again. Carole and Ted Cox

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Rick & Andrea Noordegraaf-Teeuw

  • Visit Hereford Cathedral: a place of worship, history, culture and music. July 2018 will see the Three Choirs Festival come to the city. Home of the Mappa Mundi, Chained Library, beautiful Tom Denny windows and the new SAS window and monument
  • See our favourite Romanesque churches at Kilpeck, Skenfrith and Abbey Dore. Beautiful gardens at The Weir (NT) and Abbey Dore Court as well. Castles at Goodrich and Longtown, NT houses at Croft Castle, Berrington Hall and Brockhampton.
  • Walk along the river Wye like Elgar did, or follow him over the Malvern hills. Go up our local Dinedor Hill, an Iron Age hill fort. Take to the many walking trails covering our lovely rural county, or contrast this with the rugged hills of Wales close by
  • Cross the old bridge into the city to enjoy world foods or traditional fare. We like the 'Koffiepot' across the river, with their braziers, and live music at weekends. Or enjoy cocktails on top floor of the Left Bank, Charles' Bar.
  • After a day out, you may prefer to join our table for an Ottolenghi-style three course meal, either in our dining room, or -weather permitting- in our courtyard garden.
  • Not to be missed : the Hay Festival end of May! And we love the Aardvark Bookstore Events in Brampton Bryan.
