The
Experience

The Marlows can’t wait to spoil you. They’ll share all sorts of tips about their patch and, with a bit of notice, are happy to cook you supper if you don’t want to – Mrs Marlow’s an ex-restaurateur and specialises in French bistro food. Think of the place as home: there’s no official check in or out, just a time that suits both of you.Herefordshire’s a real haven for foodies, who’ll relish whipping up meals in the swish kitchen – spring asparagus enjoyed on the balcony, rich beef casseroles in winter to warm the cockles after a day of hiking (Hay Bluff is just over the border) or cycling; bring your bikes and head off-road. Canoe on the winding Wye, picnic on its banks on sunny days.Discover the Black & White Village Trail, explore the Southern Marches, and there’s a shared garden for those who prefer to do nothing at all.

Location

The neighbourhood

Despite its closeness to town the house is lovely and quiet, on a smart residential road. You’ll have neighbours above (but only part time) and below (the owners). Walk to the centre of Hereford in 25 minutes or drive in five; the nearest shop is an easy half-mile stroll. Outside of Hereford there are rivers to kayak, hills to walk and castles to explore.

Local points of interest from Helen Marlow

  • A beautiful Cathedral. The Mappa Mundi. Chained Library. The Black and White House Museum.
  • Growing food scene. Interesting independent cafes, bars and restaurants. Fabulous food producers. Locally brewed beers and ciders. Fabulous country pubs.
  • Black and white village trail. Castles, churches and historic houses. Interesting towns nearby. Leominster for Antiques. Ludlow for history. Hay on wye for books.

Introducing

Helen Marlow

The Marlows had many roles before setting up Hafod Mount. They’ve managed farms, run houses for celebrities and love to cook and entertain: they live on the ground floor with their two miniature wire-haired dachshunds and are happy to be as hands on (or off) as you like. They both love to entertain and have done a lot of it. They used to have a house in France and still like to holiday there.
