Shafts Farm

Petersfield, Hampshire
Bed & Breakfast

Spotless bathrooms, a lovely edge-of-village setting and a hostess passionate about flowers, plants and birds - the rose garden is charming

2 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

The 1960s farmhouse has many weapons in its armoury: a tremendous South Downs thatched-village setting, owners who know every path and trail, comfortable generous bedrooms and a stunning rose garden designed by David Austin Roses (parterres, obelisks, meandering paths). The two bedrooms are fresh in cream, florals and plaids, each with a shower room with heated floors to keep toes toasty. Homemade granola, garden fruit and the full English make a fine start to the day; the airy, cane-furnished conservatory is the place for afternoon tea and a read. Your hosts are both geographers and have created an intriguing display of maps.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Rosemary Morrish

  • Enjoy a meal in the excellent Thomas Lord (of cricketing fame) pub, only 5 minutes walk away. Visit our Victorian flint-knapped parish church and see the grave of the man himself.
  • Search the churchyard for the grave of Guy Burgess, one of the infamous Cambridge Five ring of spies.
  • Don your boots and waterproofs and walk a section of the nearby South Downs Way or pick a shorter circular perambulation from the village walks booklet (West Meon's own take on A.Wainwright).
