The
Experience

At the end of an isolated track, with Lymington three miles behind, you emerge to find a magical shoreline, and a cottage spacious and bright, its toes touching the Solent. It has its own mooring and was once a smugglers’ inn. Now dunes and garden (with barbecue) blend into one, waves lap, gulls cry, and shingle paths weave through thrift and sea lavender to the beach. Inside has a calm, airy and coastal feel. Walls and stairs are white, 1930s parquet has a misty wash, vibrant pottery, textiles and art add zing. Vintage old mixes with clean-cut modern, there’s a wood-burner for cosiness and a sun room for hunkering down in and watching the storm clouds blow in. Upstairs: five bedrooms. Mattresses are fabulous, boards are topped with kilims, linen is white and crisp, and from little cottage windows treasured views through tamarisk trees reach to the Isle of Wight. Beachcombers, birdwatchers and fishermen will be happy Larrys all day long; families can book in storytellers, magicians, chefs. And, should you have the inclination to stray, the New Forest is unmatched trekking and biking terrain.

Local points of interest from Rachel Parsons

  • You can swim from here in the little bay if you're a good swimmer and follow wild swimming guidelinesThere is a private shallow water mooring included. The peaceful Beaulieu River is v close. Great pub in Bucklers Hard too - 10% off food for our guests.
  • The beach is semi-private - its v hard to access by foot or car for the public. It is mostly sandy and a bit pebbly - perfect for sandcastle and treasure hunting adventures. You can have a bonfire under the pines right next to the beach.
  • New Forest Activities will pick up from the beach here and do kayak trips along the coast - private picnics can be arranged.
  • Catering can be arranged. You can have "campfires" on the beach - we will help you arrange this because you can't set up your own fire on the beach in the National Park. We can arrange beach-craft and cooking for adults or children.
  • We love arranging magical stuff for celebrations. Story-telling, music, magicians etc. Its all at our finger-tips. Coming for a big birthday? Let us help you spoil your guests and treat them to surprises - "spoof story-teller" dressed as lost BT man...
  • Pitts Deep used to be a smugglers inn in the 17th century. Google images of it and you'll see old drawings and maps of the 'Deep' one of the only places on the Hampshire and Dorset south coast where boats could dock and unload their contraband.
