The Old School

Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire
Bed & Breakfast

Fabulous food from a friendly couple in a lovely old schoolhouse of Cotswold stone, with church-y windows, wood-burner and lots of light

4 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

So comfortable and filled with understated style is this 1854 Cotswold stone house. Wendy and John are generous, beds are huge, linen is laundered, towels and robes are fluffy. Your own mini fridge is carefully hidden and pretty lamps cast a warm glow. Best of all is the upstairs sitting room: a chic, open-plan space with church style windows letting light flood in and super sofas, good art, lovely fabrics. A wood-burner keeps you toasty, Wendy is a grand cook and all is flexible. A gorgeous, relaxing place to stay – on the A44 but peaceful at night – that positively hums with hospitality. Guests say “even better than home!”

We stayed for two nights and are delighted to confirm the high status that this accommodation has nationally. Wendy could not have been friendlier or more helpful, the rooms were delightful, comfortable and important things like the mattress and the shower were the best you can get. We only ate breakfast in-house but it was so good that it was the main topic of conversation with other guests. Couldn't fault anything!

We stayed for one night only as we had other commitments but that was enough to appreciate the exceptional qualities of this B&B. Wendy and her helpers were warm, welcoming and efficient and made our stay an absolute pleasure. We have stayed in quite a number of Sawday's recommended places, but none has exceeded the Old School with it's first class and spacious facilities. The praise reflected in other comments really is fully justified.

We've stayed in a variety of 'Sawday' B&Bs in this country, and The Old School ranks with the best. Wendy and John were most welcoming to us and the other guests, making it feel almost like a house party. Great care had been taken over the tasteful decoration and furnishing, and the facilities provided every comfort and requirement you might need. The dinner and breakfast were more than ample, and superb.

The best b&b we have stayer in so far on our annual visits to the UK. Wendy and John are kind, caring and funny hosts, they made us feel very welcome. If there would be a "home" to return to for a second time it would definitely be The Old School!

Superb B & B, Wendy and John are charming hosts, and create a very friendly welcoming atmosphere. Breakfasts were equal to a five star hotel, bedroom, bed and bathroom were of a high quality, and great attention to detail with everything. Nothing was too much trouble and Wendy provided wonderful cake and afternoon tea every day. The upstairs lounge was relaxing and calming, a wonderful place to stay for two rather travel weary Australians. Many thanks Wendy and John.

Absolutely lovely... a really good few days...with a delightful Wendy. Her breakfasts were the best ever and at teatime a different homemade cake was served. We felt very spoiled! The house is ideally situated for all the delights of the Cotswolds! We will have to go back...soon! Thanks, Paulene

One of the best B&Bs ever in our experience. A well appointed, comfortable room - a stunning sitting room - a warm & friendly welcome. The hosts have made this an exceptional place to stay. We are already planning a return visit!

The best B and B we've ever stayed in. Wendy and John amazing hosts, thoughtful and the afternoon cake and breakfasrs were amazing. I have had far worse 5 * hotels than this. We were on a 2 for 1 deal but were treated with the same care and courtesy as if we were paying the full amount. I would give a 100% satisfaction rating on all aspects of our stay.

Miss this delightful bed and breakfast at your peril! This is a gem of a place and you won't find better. A warm welcome, a lounge area to die for, very comfortable rooms, tea and cake at tea time, a splendiferous breakfast - you couldn't ask for more!
