The Cottage

Lanchester, Durham

In large, peaceful grounds close to Durham with an open fire and French windows onto the garden – come to marry, learn falconry, or fish

2 beds

2 bedrooms

Sleeps 4

Part of Georgian Burnhopeside Hall, the Cottage is rather grand itself, and entirely self-contained, though Christine will happily cook breakfasts and dinners for you and much of the food will come from their estate. French windows from the sitting room open onto the grounds where you’re very welcome to wander through fine gardens, farm and woodland. You’re in the lovely, peaceful Browney Valley here, with Durham only six miles away and a smattering of pubs and small shops in the nearby village. There’s a modern, well-equipped fitted kitchen, a dining table and leather sofas by the grand old fireplace. Wood is provided but the cottage is well heated by wood-chip boiler too. Two beamed bedrooms with big beds and big windows are up a dozen steps and have gleaming walk-in showers (one has a roll top bath). The third equally well-furnished bedroom is up a few more steps and has a cosy log-effect fire in the original fireplace. Talk to Christine about weddings and special interest breaks: fishing, falconry, cookery maybe? A group could take the B&B rooms and the apartment in the main house too.
