Rose and Furse are ceramic sculptors; she makes delicate, sometimes humorous, pieces, he creates bold animals and birds; their thatched, rambling house is a jaw-dropping gallery of modern art, ceramics and fabrics. The prettiest of cottage gardens brims with colour and scent – lots of seats and a summerhouse for sitting and admiring. Originally two cottages, you sleep on one side in lovely bedrooms under the eaves, sharing (with friends or family) a bathroom and a sitting room with log fire. Breakfast (full English, homemade jams) is next to the couple’s studio. Such warm-hearted, artistic owners – and you’re deep in Hardy country.

Furse and Rose made our holiday by being the perfect hosts in their perfectly lovely home. The setting is glorious – their quaint cottage is brimming with characterful antiques, fascinating contemporary art and their own superbly detailed ceramic sculptures. But this isn’t some kind of museum or gallery, it’s a charming, cosy and very comfortable place to stay. The breakfasts are sublime and were made all the better by providing a chance to chat with our hosts. We arrived as strangers and left feeling as though we had been visiting dear friends. Thank you both for a wonderful experience

Rose & Furse have created a unique home that immerses you in a wonderful experience from start to finish. A warm welcome with afternoon tea in the breathtakingly pretty garden, delicious cooked breakfasts accompanied by a divine selection of home-made jams & fruits, and the private sitting room complete with roaring log fire add to the appeal. An eclectic mix of original artwork & the owners' own handmade ceramic pieces feature throughout to create a space that is vibrant and uplifting. Truly a special place and well worth a visit.

If ever a B+B was special, this was. Hosts Rose and Furse absolutely make the experience entirely charming. A warm greeting and enlightened hospitality coupled to an encyclopaedic knowledge of the area and its literary heritage join in a perfect combination. Their breakfasts, if we can be so mundane are gorgeous with homemade and locally sourced produce spread with lashings of good conversation. We'll be back soon if we possibly can.
