The Experience
You’re in a perfect spot here, smack-bang on the coastal path below Golden Cap; the Anchor is a thriving, lively inn that knows exactly how to make the most of its location. The big sun terrace and gardens overlook the pebbly beach; interiors evoke driftwood and nautical cosiness, with open fires around which you can enjoy a pint of Palmers and a crab sandwich, or a bowl of super fresh shellfish washed down with an excellent wine. If you’ve built up an appetite (there are walks from the doorstep) the menus will tempt you with inspiring, hearty and artisanal treats that make splendid use of locally sourced produce. Fish and lobsters direct from the beach make for the freshest of fresh dishes. Three bedrooms with deeply comfortable king-size beds are chic (a rusty tap as a coat hook, rope buoys, trunks turned into tables) with captivating sea views; you’ll think you’ve stepped aboard an 18th-century schooner. Bathrooms have roll-top baths, walk-in showers, the fluffiest of white towels and glorious tiling, with top-notch oils and soaps. Terrific.

Down a delightful, twisting, rural lane (be patient with other cars: it's worth it), the road opens out to reveal a beautiful panoramic view of the sea. The well-cared for car park provides plenty of room to park. Nestled at the bottom of Golden Cap, this is a perfect setting. Walk over the little wooden bridge to The Anchor Inn which commands prime position overlooking the sea. Recent refurbishment has retained the historic charm and offers a choice of attractive outdoor or inside seating areas. The staff provided a warm, friendly welcome and the bar menu was both high quality and affordable

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night back in May and it was incredible!! The room was superb quality and decor, bed was huge and very comfy and bathroom was huge with lovely roll top bath. The service and food was outstanding and there were lots of little personal touches that made it very special (the home made flapjacks in the room were delicious!). We can't thank the staff at the Anchor enough for making our stay so wonderful and unique.
