Head deep into Dorset countryside, past towering oaks, sheep-filled meadows and wooded hillsides to reach this brick and flint cottage. Owner Jingo was born and raised here, and lives next door with husband Rufus and two working spaniels. Guests have lovely views towards Hambledon Hill across their acres of garden, which wrap behind the cottage; your own private garden is south-facing and at the front. Inside, it’s mostly modern and minimalist with smooth oak floors and fine cream fabrics in the bedrooms. A few vintage touches too – antique chairs, a pretty floral sofa below vibrant Russian canvases and a much-loved AGA amongst sleek surfaces in the kitchen. Soak in a curvaceous contemporary bath, sleep on handcrafted LOAF beds and wake refreshed to tackle the walk up to the prehistoric hillfort. Your reward will be spectacular wildflowers and butterflies in spring and summer, and a taste of Iron Age history. Stroll to Child Okeford too, a thriving village with two pubs, village shop, farm shop and art gallery; by car, Shaftesbury is just 15 minutes and the Purbeck coast under an hour for great walks.
