The
Experience

Rural chic at its best! A thatched 18th-century cottage bursting with character and clutter-free style. Dreamy window seats, an inglenook fireplace, oak floorboards and latch doors, exposed beams, cob walls, wood-burners, a rustic antique dining table, a vintage leather armchair… fresh flowers, soft furnishings, candles and contemporary artwork complete the picture. Picasso print line drawings dot the kitchen – a long, narrow Victorian addition with stone flooring, a painted dresser and all you’ll need. Up the cottagey stairs to the oh-so-pretty bedrooms, light and luxuriously carpeted with views of church, water meadows and woods beyond. Both have king-size, French style, cream iron beds, crisp white cotton and chests of drawers; the larger gets a buttonback chair, the smaller, a cast-iron fireplace, and the spacious bathroom between them has sumptuous towels and toiletries. All this, and a herb and flower-planted garden, in the quietest part of a most attractive village in Dorset. Fantastic for cycling and chalk ridge walks, and a ten-minute drive from Georgian Blandford. It’ll be hard to leave.

Reviews

Fantastic cottage! All mod cons and some lovely luxurious touches made it a very relaxing stay! Our baby was well catered for and Emma provided everything we needed.

Frances

Super cottage and plenty of room for four and even six if the annex is used. Nice welcome touches of flowers, bottle of wine some basic food needs in the fridge including cheese crackers. Very lovely village and people who are very friendly with everyone smiling including the many horse riders who frequently pass by. This is the sort of cottage you would hope to buy one day.

Durweston was a beautifully appointed and comfortable cottage (although tall people need to be very careful about low door frames and ceilings!). The owner, Emma, was delightful to deal with and the cottage was a great base for exploring this wonderful county.

Elizabeth, Norwich

A beautiful cottage, in this peaceful and charming village. Well positioned for exploiting the Dorset Countryside and Jurassic coastline, 53 Durweston is ideal for 2 couples or a small family. We wanted for nothing during our stay and appreciated the small touches.

Jeremy, Chichester

We have booked through Sawdays a few times now and have never been disappointed. 53 Durweston is particularly wonderful, the attention to detail and personal touches are unexpected and help to make the stay a truly 5 star cottage experience. Everything is there that you need and more and your dogs are made to feel extra welcome with the extra doggie amenities. The location of the cottage in the village is delightful, opposite the church and with bridle paths going up on the hills behind and the locals are very friendly. We had a perfect week and cannot recommend 53 Durweston highly enough

Gillian, Ferring

Lovely cottage decorated and furnished to a very high standard. Village looked nice although we didn't get along to the local pubs as we were too busy exploring the many local sights - there's a lot to do within easy reach of this place. Can't fault it - if character with luxury appeals then you'll be very happy here.

Local points of interest from Emma Perry

  • With so many beautiful walks from your doorstep you can certainly leave the car parked up for the day.
  • The lovely Georgian market town of Blandford Forum is just a short drive away although we like to put our walking shoes on and meander our way through the beautiful grounds of Bryanston School next to the river Stour
  • The stunning Jurassic Coast with cliff top walks and beautiful sandy beaches lies just 35 minutes away by car. Our favourite beach is Studland which boasts amazing views, horse riding, sailing and water sports. It really does cater for everyone.
  • The superb hill fort of Hod Hill has the greatest views over rural Dorset and is home to spectacular wild flowers and butterflies. Enjoy a breathtaking walk towards the summit of Hambledon Hill, an iron age Hill fort and why not take a picnic.
  • You may want to take the opportunity to visit Bath or Salisbury during your stay. They are both an easy drive away or you may choose to visit Shaftsbury and Gold Hill (which is where the memorable Hovis Ad was filmed)
  • Lovely local pubs for great food and drink. I will be very happy to introduce you to our favourites.
