The
Experience

Mark and Rosie, both working in the hospitality industry, felt they wanted to do things their own way – and better! So they bought a run down old village pub and transformed it into a lovely place to eat and drink and stay. The village is on the main road but it’s not a busy one and the feel is still rural – there are footpaths all around it for walkers. Return to pale wooden floor boards, a big fireplace for roaring fires in winter, friendly bar staff, low tables and benches in the bar or wooden tables with fresh flowers and handsome brass candle sticks in the dining room. And as for the food? They source locally “when it’s good enough” and clever chef Nick Topham creates menus from the freshest meat and fish alongside some good pub staples: Tytherleigh bouillabaisse, rouille and homemade soda bread, British Blonde sirloin or rib-eye, some cracking puddings and cheeses. With three real ales from Otter or Branscombe Brewery and a nifty wine list why go home? Bedrooms are simple, light and brand new with pocket sprung mattresses, feather and down bedding, lovely woollen throws, homemade biscuits and neat-as-a-pin bathrooms with big fluffy towels.
