The Millbrook Inn

Kingsbridge, Devon

Lovely foodie inn nestled in South Hams, award-winning menus and your own swish suite of rooms

Rooms sleep 2

Arrive before the boats do – they drop anchor a step away and the Millbrook is their first port of call. The atmosphere and food are quite something, and perfect ingredients are worshipped in best seasonal style. Tuck into pot-au-feu, a Devon take on traditional French stew with seasonal vegetables topped with pan-fried guinea fowl supreme and Montbéliard smoked sausage. Leave room for iced white chocolate meringue cake. In winter, a log fire warms the immediate bar area while padded settles and wheelback chairs cluster comfortably around tables in snugs. The stream-side terrace is tiny but assures entertainment in summer once the ducks are at play, so sit back and watch with a bowl of mussels and a pint of Tarka. At bedtime, as you wind your way up past beer barrels, you’ll be delighted by your hideaway suite with its soaring ceilings, kingsize bed and deeply comfy sofas. Décor by local artisans, a modern kitchen, driftwood touches, beautiful throws and double doors that open onto your own terrace overlooking the brook. Order up a cheese platter, perhaps some champagne, and settle to soak up the view. Heaven.
