Strawberry Water

One big house (or out of season, 3 smaller ones) to make you smile. Revel in the originality, roam the grounds, stroll to the beautiful bay

Tumble down a narrow lane through woods to an amazing house between the hills and the shingle-sands. There are tantalizing glimpses of the sea from upper windows, and nature all around. It’s an L-shaped house with the Cottage to the rear, the main house at the centre, and (thrillingly reached via a bookcase door) the Dungeon at the end. Once a hideaway, it is now full of sunlight and colour (and sports three retro sofas from a night club!). The Cottage, smaller, more traditional, reveals the same high standard of finish – everything is immaculate here. The main house living space is huge, with a sweep of geothermically heated floor, a roaring wood-burner and a table that seats at least 12. Each kitchen is different and there’s no skimping on kit: a Smeg fridge here, fun 50s’ units there, and everything a good cook needs, from garlic presses to juicers. Bathrooms exude originality – and deep tubs. Bedrooms are quirky, romantic and restful. You can stroll to the bay, walk through the woods to the pub, book up surfing, fishing or a chef: the owners will arrange whatever you fancy.

  • New 6 seater wood fired sauna fitted for Summer 2014 situated in secluded garden area next to the stream.
  • In quiet Devon valley with few cars passing and surrounded by wonderful walking through valleys or over cliffs.
  • The Old Smithy Inn is an old thatched Inn situated at the top of the valley. Its a an uphill walk there, but thankfully downhill on the way home.
