Rydon Stables

Budleigh Salterton, Devon

Neat-as-a-pin cottage on the river Otter, a hop from Budleigh Salterton and the sea. Stroll to lovely Otterton mill and its artisan bakery

2 bedrooms

Sleeps 4

Peace – simple and sublime. Otterton village looks like a postcard from the 1950s, with its working mill, artisan bakery and walks through meadows along the river Otter; today there are cafés and a gallery too. The Stables is a wisteria-clad, red brick cottage that reflects its harmonious surroundings. Inside: a wonderfully light, white space with tall ceilings, exposed beams, a wood-burner and French windows that open out on to a tiny (part overlooked) garden. Gill has been in self-catering for two decades and has won awards for her efforts – you are superbly looked after here! There are games and books for children and all the best gadgetry for entertaining evenings in; the kitchen shines with white units and black countertops and appliances are brand new. Retire to neat bedrooms with fabulous beds and the best mattresses, the double with striking vintage wallpaper and a view to the garden. Two miles from the sea, you can sally forth with kids in tow to Budleigh Salterton, the oldest part of the Jurassic coast: explore for fossils or fish for your dinner off a pebbly beach.

Another wonderful stay at Rydon Stables. Every comfort & convenience included and Otterton is delightful. The Mill and River Otter walk to Budleigh Salterton are charming and the Community Shop is a great asset. Can recommend Rockfish restaurant for delicious fresh fish. Thankyou for a wonderful relaxing week in this unique part of Devon

This lovely cottage in a perfect location for exploring the best of this area. The weather has been wonderful and we have enjoyed returning to the comfort of Rydon Stables at the end of a perfect day. We particularly liked Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth and Beer. Coffee and cake at the Mill followed by a river walk to Budleigh Salterton was a favourite. Wonderful lunch on the Floating Restaurant on the river Exe comes highly recommended - fabulous!

This was our second visit to Rydon Stables. Quite simply it ticks all our boxes- close to the beach, the pub and lots of beautiful locations. Also the cottage is the cleanest we have ever stayed in - what a pleasure! We wish we could stay here and not go back to London.................we wish!

We have had a great week in Devon in the village of Otterton. We have explored the area and found so much to do that we never ventured further afield as we had planned! Very good food in the area - we went to the Floating Restaurant, Rockfish and Lympstone Manor, the new restaurant of Michael Cains. We can recommend all of them! Rydon Stables is a perfect location, thank you so much

Just has the most fantastic week with sunshine every day. This was a return visit for us as we had enjoyed Rydon Stables 2 years ago. The accommodation is perfect and the location ideal for us, close to the sea yet within walking distance of Otterton Mill and the pub. Thank you for a great return holiday

This is a great location and we can recommend it highly. The main advantages for us were high standard accommodation within easy reach of all the things we need for a perfect holiday - 5 minutewalk to the pub and Otterton Mill, great foodie locations like Darts Farm, 5 minutes in the car to the beach and lots of beautiful walks and locations. Thank you for a lovely holiday!

We are keen walkers and walked the SW Coastal path from the beginning of the Jurassic Coast at Exmouth to beyond Lyme Regis. Rydon Stables was the most perfect location and setting. We could not have asked for more, all the little extras were very welcome. This cottage has been prepared with love and is highly recommended.

We are avid golfers and can recommend Rydon Stables as a brilliant base for golfers. Set in a village it is within 20 minutes of several top quality golf courses, with many more within a 45 minute drive. The pub is great for evenings after being outside all day and the food was good, also excellent local Otter beer! The area is beautiful, lovely coastal towns, all unspoiled with lots of charm. Rydon Stables is a high quality property, beautifully presented and sparkling clean. A really good holiday in a perfect location.

I cannot recommend this property enough. We had every requirement met to our satisfaction and more. The location is perfect - ideal for either local visits or accessing a great deal of the Westcountry. The local pub and Otterton Mill are 5 minute walk, so perfect in the evening.

A great place for high quality accommodation together with easy access to the beach, walking distance to the pub and Otterton Mill, for eating out. We can recommend the high quality furnishings, attention to detail and immaculate accommodation. Ideal for couples seeking high levels of comfort. We had a great week!
