A flock of white geese trot across the field, the cottage gardens are a summer-blooming feast of colour and the Blackdown Hills are the green backdrop. Inside is just as good: polished wood, original lithographs, oil paintings, comfy seats by the fire, airy bedrooms in apple-pie order and freshly picked flowers in every room. Enjoy the pool, wander the gorgeous gardens, have breakfast (free-range and delicious) outside in the sun – Diana wants you to feel at home. You’re equidistant from Exmoor and the south coast, and you can wander down the hill for supper and a pint in the local. A friendly house with a timeless charm.

A lovely relaxing place to stay. A very warm welcome from friendly hosts and an elegant country house. Beautiful gardens to wander in and a great pool for a refreshing swim. Views of the Blackdown Hills provided a scenic background to this lovely country farm house. A very enjoyable and restful place to stay.

We stayed for 2 nights at Pounds Farm when we were attending a wedding in the area and had a lovely time. It's a beautiful house surrounded by lovely gardens and farmland - so peaceful. The outdoor pool is another bonus, and as it's heated we even used it in the rain! The owners are very welcoming and do their best to help with anything they can - they even lent my partner a belt to go with his suit for the wedding as he'd forgotten his! A great stay, would definitely return.

  • Take a ride on the West Somerset steam train. Get off at Dunster and visit the Yarn Market, Castle and gardens, return over Exmoor. Or if its sunny, drop down to the fishing villages of Beer and Branscombe. and walk the cliff top coast path. 17 miles.
  • Also on the south coast, collect fossils in Charmouth, have lunch at Hicks in Lyme Regis or go to the Folk Festival at Sidmouth. Drive up to Porlock and visit the wild North Devon coast at Lynton, where the funicular railway ascends the cliff face.
  • Exeter is a great city for shopping and the town of Honiton (8 miles) has a history of pottery, lace making and great antique shops.
  • Enjoy a stroll down to the pond to watch dragon and damselflies skit over the water and the swallows dipping down to drink. Pounds Farm faces west, so on long, warm, summer evenings, the sunsets can be amazing, especially over a glass of wine.
