Horses in the paddock, roses climbing up the walls and no-frills bedrooms at this down-to-earth, friendly B&B. Susie, a retired eventer, will greet you along with her black Labrador Tilly.
You have your own sitting room with horsey pictures and a cosy wood-burner while Susie lives at the other end of this Devon longhouse. Breakfast is at one long wooden table in the sunny kitchen: home-grown fruit compote with Greek yogurt, homemade bread and granola, garden tomatoes, home-laid eggs, honey from Susie’s neighbour, rashers from local award-winning pigs.
Walk along the river Otter on pretty trails, bring bikes, take all your gear and a picnic to the Jurassic coast or head to Dartmoor. Behind the house is a quiet, well-kept garden with a summerhouse where you’re welcome to put together your own picnic suppers in the summer.
