The
Experience

Nothing prepares you for the views from your windmill tower: they stretch 20 miles across the South Hams to Dartmoor. This tall quirky 200-year-old building narrows upwards over four levels, linked by a slender hand-built staircase. Curl up the stairs (maple, oak and teak abound) to the lofty top-floor lookout – a cosy living room with glass for walls, two comfy chairs and the sound of the wind whistling outside. This is not for those who revel in cutting edge design – it’s nicely old-fashioned.  The bathroom lies below – sink back in the bubbles and gaze on more view – then it’s down again, to an uncluttered bedroom with a Victorian bed, a soft down duvet and feather pillows. On the ground floor is the kitchen, its cupboards custom-made to accommodate curved walls. There’s a round table for dining and a glass door framing the landcape. Buzzards soar above, and your neighbours are the foxes and badgers. Perfect peace between Dartmoor, the South Hams and the sea, and three pubs within a mile, including Sawday’s favourite, the Bickley Mill Inn.

Reviews

This is certainly the most unique cottage I have ever seen. Great respect to Vince for managing to turn the old windmill into a cozy and beautiful place to stay. We especially enjoyed reading and watching the sunset on the top floor, a true wonder every time. Also many thanks to Vince, who gave us good advice about things to do in the region and provided us with self-made bread as well as lovely bacon, eggs and milk. We greatly enjoyed our stay here and can just strongly advise anyone looking for a unique and special cottage to pay Vince and his windmill a visit.

Idyllic views. Wonderful to watch the weather roll in from the Millers eye. Well equipped and everything you'd expect from a windmill and more. I took my wife here for a surprise anniversary treat and she loved it. Really characterful place to stay. The owner, Vincent, was very helpful. There was a very nice touch with provisions including freshly made bread, milk, eggs and a nice bottle of prosecco. Would definitely return... A real gem from which to enjoy Devon

Wow is correct. The pictures don't begin to describe the wonder and awe that you get while staying here. The Miller's Eye room at the top looks out for miles in all directions. We could sit and soak up those views in any weather. The homemade bread and other goodies were a welcome treat on arrival. Thanks Vince and Sue

Such a unique wonderful experience, Vince the owner was so helpful. The views from the windmill keep you mesmerised, set in its own private grounds. A holiday which can never be forgotten....we didn't want to leave.
