The
Experience

In a hamlet off the coastal road, six miles from Lyme, is an old U-shaped farmhouse on a young organic farm. Harry and Emily live on one side of the ‘U’ and you on the other, in a secluded cottage with a wonderful décor, and a private courtyard. Cows graze, tractors trundle, and there are 65 acres to roam. Your charming hosts are busy with farm, farm shop, gardens, kids, but always have time for you. Enter to find… a flagstone floor worn smooth with age, a vast inglenook with logs and red sofa, a marble-top table with intricate swan legs, a Shaker kitchen to the side. Every item of furniture is vintage or antique, elegant yet understated – it couldn’t be nicer. Upstairs are two super bedrooms and a deep roll-top tub, renovated perfectly by Emily, blessed with soft towels, handmade soaps and lashings of hot water. Fresh flowers abound and there’s a great veg patch too: grab a lettuce and fresh herbs and knock yourself up a salad. Stock up at Millers Farm Shop, eat out at River Cottage Canteen, visit foodie markets; you’re spoilt for choice. Stride off from Axmouth to Lyme Regis (eight miles); you might spot a heron on the way.

Local points of interest from Alexandra Heaton

  • We are proud to be a certified organic farm and raise free-range chickens, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, geese and guinea fowl. We also grow organic herbs and vegetables, which are available on a 'pick-your-own' basis to our guests.
  • The Jurassic Coast & seaside town of Lyme Regis are less than 10min drive, with plenty of beaches and shoreline pursuits to choose from. There are vibrant markets in the towns of Axminster, Charmouth and Bridport, which are only a few miles up the road.
  • Nestled in the Devon hills, we are located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - a rambler's paradise, with outstanding views of the countryside and sea only a short walk away.
  • The local area is rich with amazing places to eat - we're seconds away from The Old Dairy Kitchen at Trill Farm, River Cottage HQ, River Cottage Canteen in Axminster, as well as many excellent local pubs. There is a bakery just a mile up the road too.
  • Our nearest train station is Axminster, with regular connections to London Waterloo. Exeter Airport is only 30 minutes drive, and Bristol Airport is 1 hour 30 minutes away. We would recommend coming by car, but there are taxis in the local area.
  • Our aim is to be as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible - we heat the house and water with a biomass boiler, and we generate our own electricity too! The farm is yours to explore, and we welcome you to visit the animals and gardens at your leisure.
