Aside from being a top-notch house for a party of ten, with a garden for kids to ramble in and a big grassy paddock with a see-saw and swing, it is in the most fabulous location. Close to the A38 to Plymouth, you are within easy reach of Kingsbridge and Salcombe, minutes from some of the best beaches in the region (Julie leaves you a list of her favourites) including Bigbury and Burgh Island. So it’s down the bumpy track to your country escape, a pretty farmworker’s cottage recently restored and now stocked with essentials – from toys and games to heated towel rails to homemade cake on arrival. Bunkroom and bedrooms (white walls, white shutters) are upstairs; living spaces are down; French windows open off a large open plan kitchen/dining/sitting area to a big patio and a barbecue that overlooks the lawn. All is white-walled, wood floored, and presented in cheerful beach house style. You can recline on the sofa whilst others chop and stir (the kitchen bursts with mod cons), curl up in the snug with the TV and the dog, or nod off by the wood-burner. It’s all you’d hope for and more.
