The Experience

Sheila and Tim make sure you’re well fed. Start each morning at a big table in the kitchen with French windows flung open to the courtyard. Tim cooks sourdough in the Aga and smokes salmon, Sheila makes jam and compote, their chickens provide the eggs. You’ll be welcomed with tea (or an aperitif) plus homemade shortbread, and you can ask about picnics.

Three charming bedrooms look out over wildflowers, and there’s a garden for pottering. You can feed the chickens, fire up the pizza oven or just relax – Tim will share his telescope, or you can borrow the Canadian canoe for lazy river paddling.

South Pool is a sleepy village – it’s where Salcombe regulars come for quiet – but you’re close to Devon’s best beaches. Nip over to Mill Bay on the foot ferry for cocktails and spa luxuries, and feast on fresh seafood at The Beach House in South Milton.

Reviews

Just returned from short break at Glebe Farm. Lovely peaceful setting. Great hosts who made us so welcome. Excellent choices for a tasty breakfast. Close proximity to nearby beaches, towns etc. Couldn't ask for a more relaxing place to stay. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

We have just returned from a lovely few days at Glebe Farm. Sheila and Tim are perfect hosts and made us very welcome and safe adhering to all the current guidelines. We even had a pre-breakfast idyllic row up the creek in their Canadian canoe. Returned home feeling relaxed and would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time with Sheila and Tim, and their two dogs, and loved the peace and quiet, the charm of the village, and the walks in and around the area. It was a super break. Many thanks.

Perfect hosts, perfect breakfasts, very comfortable bed, lovely house, excellent local pub. In fact a first class place to stay. Nuff said!

You will find this slice of heaven in Devon quietly tucked away up a tidal creek - a picture-book house surrounded by garden and angelic hosts who bake their own bread and even smoke the salmon themselves. We were offered lots of local tips and made to feel totally at home - Glebe Farm is a perfect example as to why guests should choose to stay in a bed and breakfast instead of a hotel.

Corina, Brighton

Lovely stay. Friendly and knowledgeable hosts always ready with insight and recommendations in the local area. We borrowed the canoe for a gentle row down the creek and saw leaping sea bass. The B&B is in a delightful cosy village complete with pub by a brook serving good food.

I'd pick South Pool over Salcombe if you're after a more peaceful break. You're only a short drive from the most beautiful beaches and only a quick nip over the estuary away. The excellent Millbrook pub is only a stone's throw away and a very worthwhile place to spend an evening.

Location

The neighbourhood

As those ‘in the know’ say, when Salcombe’s bustling, head to South Pool. The village in deepest South Hams is a more peaceful alternative to Salcombe, set on the creek with views of the Kingsbridge estuary. It’s a little more remote so you’ll need a car, but there’s a fantastic pub – The Millbrook – just 100 yards away, plus more options in a short drive; try the Cricket Inn at Beesands (4 miles) or the Old Bakery restaurant (5 miles). The market town of Kingsbridge is a 15-minute drive, and you’re close to the beaches at East Portlemouth and Mill Bay.

Local points of interest from Timothy Hirst

  • We are situated at the head of the idyllic South Pool Creek giving access by boat to the Salcombe Estuary
  • Glebe Farm is within a ten minute drive of the South Hams best beaches - glorious golden sand and wonderful views. Take a BBQ and while away a summer evening with a glass of wine
  • The South West coast path is easily accessible and we offer a pick up and drop off service where possible to allow maximum enjoyment of the coastal path without having to return to your starting point
  • The Millbrook Inn is a mere 150m away - just voted Devons best dining pub. Offering fine dining all year round and BBQ's in the summer

Introducing

Timothy Hirst

Sheila and Tim left Berkshire for the quiet of Devon, where they live the good life with their two black Labradors. They’ll extend the warmest of welcomes to help you relax – it might be their house, but they want you to feel at home.
