The
Experience

A whitewashed, wisteria-clad house in a gorgeous village… tea and cake will be waiting. Alison’s is a relaxed and friendly home. You will sleep well in a peaceful, charming bedroom: luxurious linen on a brass bed, floral cushions, a jug of wild flowers on an antique wooden chest. Alison’s breakfasts change with the seasons: homemade granola, jams and bread, fruit compotes and tasty cooked choices. The garden is walled, rambling and pretty with a tangle of climbers, a bright wooden summerhouse and places to sit in the sun. Head out for nearby Totnes (bustling and arty), great wood or moorland walks and fun on the river Dart.

My partner and I spent a lovely relaxing overnight stay complete with a beautiful home cooked breakfast. The house has been tastefully renovated to a high standard, very comfortable and stylish.

David, Foxham

Very nice place to stay, well situated for exploring the beautiful Dart Valley. The room was large and spacious and our hosts were very helpful, phoning local pubs and taxis for us. Breakfast was comprehensive. Would recommend to friends.

Warm welcome and a delightfully light room that was well appointed. A very comfortable bed with lovely linen. The breakfast was quite delicious. We enjoyed a few walks that can be made from the front door. We also went to an good local pub one night. We would love an excuse to return!

Peaceful village near the Dart estuary allowing us to walk among the bluebells with stunning views of the water, dine at what was Keith Floyd's old pub that we visited many, many years ago, and also savour the local inn with excellent food, Devon beer and wine. Our charming hosts provided everything we needed and more, tea and cake/scones each afternoon, and a lovely breakfast in the morning.

Susan, Oxford

We stayed for 3 nights in this lovely, homely B&B that is ideally placed for visiting the South Hams. Ali and William are charming, relaxed hosts and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. A comfy bed, super en suite shower room and delicious breakfasts made for a wonderful stay.

We spent two wonderful nights in Brooking, it is the most special place. William and Ali are amazing hosts, we were welcomed with a delicious cream tea and then shown to our beautiful bedroom where we had the most restful sleeps in the most comfortable of beds. The entire property is so homely, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We are already looking forward to returning to this special place - not least for the delicious home cooked breakfasts, Ali makes the best granola I've ever tasted! Highly recommend staying with Ali and William (and Nelly of course!) in this beautiful part of Devon.

What a beautiful B&B – I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tranquil break in the gorgeous Devonshire countryside. Ali and William were lovely hosts, very friendly and welcoming and Ali’s breakfasts were delicious – homemade fruit compotes, bread and granola, as well as fresh eggs and home-grown tomatoes. The en suite room was very cosy, comfortable and beautifully furnished. The village is delightful and close to great walks along the river, with a good pub as well. Many thanks to our hosts – you really helped make our weekend very special – we would love to return sometime.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay with Ali and William. They made us all so incredibly welcome with lots of cups of tea, board games for our children and some lovely chats as Ali cooked a wonderful breakfast. We felt nurtured and refreshed and leave with happy memories of a special stay in a beautiful home.

Brooking is a lovely place to stay and Alison & William were the perfect hosts. We cannot speak highly enough of them and their beautiful house. We wish we could have stayed longer and look forward to visiting again in the future!.

Moira, London

We had such a great time staying with Ali and William, they made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The room was lovely with a really comfortable bed and an excellent shower. Ali made us delicious breakfasts and a fabulous cream tea. We visited two really good pubs within walking distance and did a wine and cheese tasting at Sharpham followed by a walk around their vineyards. It is also a beautiful walk into Totnes from the village. We loved staying with Ali and William and will be back.

Ali and William offered us a warm and fantastic welcome, not just to their lovely B&B but also village life and surrounding area. Breakfast was a treat and a real delight, the B&B is a true gem in a quintessential English village. We will certainly be back for a longer stay.

Eric, Brussels

In a pretty village setting, this is a very comfortable B and B and we do not hesitate to recommend it. We had a lovely welcome with scones and clotted cream and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful with our enquiries about the local area. Sitting in their attractive garden at the end of a day exploring the attractive estuary was especially appreciated. Also the large shower with lots of hot water. A delicious breakfast was cooked to our choice in the adjoining kitchen as we chatted to Alison and enjoyed the fresh granola and strawberries.

Susan, Cowbridge, vale of glamorgan

Ali and William made us feel so at home and looked after us wonderfully. They are perfect hosts, making for a special and memorable visit. Fresh baked scones for a Devon cream tea, delicious breakfasts of homemade granola and rhubarb compote, fresh baked bread and homemade jam, pancakes (and the full English for those who wanted it!), crisp linen and loads of hot water. This place is heavenly. Ali gave us and our two curious crawling babies the run of the house and even babysat for us in the evening! The house is spacious, homely and characterful, the garden is pretty and the village sweet.

One of our favourite places to stay. We've visited twice in the past year, we love it so much. Beautiful house, complete with dogs and chickens in the backyard to keep children entertained, and an absurdly pretty setting. William and Alison couldn't be more welcoming - and the cooked breakfast and cream tea are things of beauty. It's a wonderful place.

Alyson and William run this cosy B & B with a welcome of warmth and incredible friendliness and helpfulness. The bedroom was lovely and the bathroom divine, and to top it all off the welcome cream tea and full breakfast were all you could want. Sally

Me and my partner stayed with William and Ali for two nights at their beautiful home in Ashprington. We received a warm welcome, with cream tea on arrival and were very well looked after from the beginning. The bedroom and en suite were luxury and homely as was the kitchen and sitting room. Everything was to a very high standard -we very much felt at home. William and Ali provided us with a very impressive breakfast spread on both days and really made us feel welcome. I would recommend staying here if you want to see South Devon and stay at a pleasant family B&B, with superb hosts.

Richard

We loved our stay at Brooking. Alison and William were so incredibly welcoming. We had the most gorgeous home cooked breakfast in front of their wood burner - chatting for ages. Their house is beautifully decorated, warm and welcoming. One of the best places we have ever stayed. Thank you!

Brooking is a delightful B&B in a lovely village. The owner's couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful. Your every comfort is provided for, from a bright and crisp ensuite bedroom with a wonderful power shower to your own sitting room with a roaring fire. Good pubs too just a short stroll away. Highly recommended! Angela and Mark
