A tree-lined drive leads to a long white wall, and a gate opening to an explosion of colour – the garden. Come for a deliciously restful place and the nicest, most easy-going hosts; the wisteria-covered 17th-century cottage is full of books, paintings and fresh flowers. Bedrooms – one in an extension that blends in beautifully – are large, traditional, wonderfully comfortable, and the views down the valley are sublime. Patricia trained as a chef and dinners at Applebarn are delicious and great fun. Breakfast, served in a lovely oak-floored dining room, includes honey from the neighbour’s bees.

My husband and I have just returned from yet another wonderful holiday with Pat & Bob Spencer at Applebarn Cottage, as usual the food was delicious all cooked by pat and served by the ever patient and attentive Bob, Pat knows what we like but she always comes up with a few lovely tasty surprises, it is so relaxing and peaceful we never want to come away and of course we always love to see the lovely dog Benji, we are already looking forward to our next stay.

After exhausting weeks and a long tiring journey from Bonn Germany - Airport Stansted to Axminster I arrived at the Applebarn - what a warm welcome from Patricia and Bob. The B&B lies in a peaceful valley. For me, it was the right place for calming down. At night I could hear my own breath and the lovely voices of owls, dear, pheasants... The room was so cosy and generous I often came back early from my day trips and enjoyed the sun terrace. Happily I decided to take the dinner service from the Applebarn otherwise I would have missed Patricia's and Bob's magical dinners. I thank myself!

Quiet and peaceful with lovely views. Large bedroom with comfortable bed. Warm welcome. Exceptional dinners. We stayed 3 nights and each evening was special and different. Bob's service at table complimented the 3 course meal which included aperitif and coffee. We have used Sawday over many years for holidays in Britain and France but the dinners here have been the best. Pat is a brilliant cook!

If you appreciate the quiet of the countryside, a beautiful garden and wonderful food then we cannot recommend Applebarn highly enough. We originally came here over 10 yrs ago through Alastair Sawday and have returned every year since. Pat and Bob are genuine, kind people and always greet everyone warmly along with Benji their dog. Dinner in the evening is always a highlight - like having a professional chef at your own dinner party. The dining room has an a lovely atmosphere and the food is consistently served to an extremely high standard. Somewhere unique and special.

We had our 3rd visit to Apple Barn in June. Wonderful location, so peaceful and comfortable staying in the suite. Pat's cooking is to die for - and we are wonderfully looked after by her very attentive and charming husband Bob. Would recommend it to anyone.

My husband and i have just returned from a fantastic 12 day holiday at Applebarn Cottage, with Bob &Pat Spencer. The food is delicious, all cooked by Pat`s wonderful expert knowledge of different foods. The waiter service is provided by a very attentive Bob who looked after our every need and treated us like a Lord and Lady. The Accomodation is a wonderful suite in the garden, very peaceful and quite. We are already planning and looking forward to our next years early 12 day holiday.

I cannot recommend highly enough Applebarn Cottage and its delightful owners. Pat and Bob make every guest feel like a friend - and provide meals that make every guest feel like a king! This is a wonderful location; a glorious garden, fantastic views and the quiet "away from it all" atmosphere that helps to make a holiday. Yet there are so many places to visit locally that you will want to return, as we have many times.

We enjoyed a simply marvelous time at the applebarn cottage. Its beautiful rooms, its stunning surroundings, the peace and quiet and most of all, the gracious hosts that run it, Pat & Robert. If you happen to chose to eat at the barn, you're in for a treat. Pat is a fantastic chef, and Robert quite the charming waiter. It's no surprise that some of the Spencers visitors have come to stay with them for decades. If we'd knew about it earlier, we would have done too.

My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic 11 night stay with Pat & Bob at Applebarn cottage, the accomodation is really comfortable and private, and the wonderfully cooked food pat does every evening and morning is delicous, and Bob is so attentive to our needs on waiting on us at the table, they are both really fantastic hosts, and we are looking forward to returning in september for 12 nights

A lovely location and lovely cottage. Bob and Pat who own the cottage were so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was great as was the evening meal. We highly recommend this place and will use again next time we are in this area.

We would very highly recommend Applebarn Cottage as a lovely place to stay. Our hosts were kind and helpful and we much enjoyed talking to them. We relished our delicious meals. Not least we enjoyed meeting Benji--the most sweet natured and best behaved of dogs.

We had a lovely stay at The Applebarn. Rob & Pat made us very welcome. Pat's cooking is amazing. Hope to go back soon. Loved Benji the dog.
