One of those places where you get your own annexe – in this case, the former milking parlour of the listed farmhouse. It certainly has scrubbed up nicely. The ground-floor bedroom has a finely dressed antique bed and magnificent chandelier while the well-equipped kitchen is a boon if you don’t fancy venturing out for supper. Friendly, helpful Sarah leaves you a breakfast hamper too, so cook whenever you want – cereals, juice, eggs from her hens, local sausages and bacon, homemade jams. No open fire but cosy underfloor heating warms you after blustery walks. Bring your four-legged friends – canine or equine – to this happy house.

As it turned out we arrived at the Lodge, Dale End House at the same time as the worst snowfall in over a decade but that didn’t diminish Sarah and Paul’s endless warmth and kindness even as we were snowed in. The accommodation is beautiful, the hosts fantastic, the setting stunning. Very dog friendly. We will definitely be returning whatever the weather.

A lovely find. 2 persons self catering are not common particularly good ones which the lodge is. Sawday entry accurately captures the atmosphere of the place. Great value breakfast hamper. Sarah and Paul are welcoming and friendly hosts. Location is wonderfully "Dale end" so you know you are away from it all despite Bakewell being only 5 miles away. Wish more places would adopt their 'no dog charge' - if you have an entry in Sawdays dog friendly breaks in Britain why charge £10+ ?!

8 of us stayed in the converted farm house, which was fabulous. Everything was high spec, from the wonderful kitchen to the thick fluffy towels on the bathrooms. Each spacious bedroom has its own excellent shower, comfortable bed, tv and relaxed atmosphere. Sarah is very accommodating and friendly. Can't recommend highly enough.

Having working Springer Spaniels and finding suitable accommodation can be difficult, we needed somewhere close to Chatsworth where we compete, and in the beautiful setting of Derbyshire. We found Dale End and booked our first week there in May 2013,what a find!, absolutely amazing, Sarah and Paul are lovely hosts, nothing is to much trouble, the accommodation is fantastic & the dogs are welcomed, We was so impressed we re-booked for May 2014 before we left. We have just returned from another fabulous week (2014), & have pre-booked for the next 3 years, you couldn't wish for a better place.

The lodge is a fantastic little cottage, separate from the main house, and it much bigger than it looks in the pictures. It even has it's own little kitchen. The owners are very friendly, as are their fantastic peacocks. Breakfast was lovely too.

The Lodge was a haven of tranquility - gorgeous surroundings, fantastic hospitality and walks from the door made this an idyllic place to stay. Yet again Sawdays have found an fantastic place which we would highly recommend. You will not be disappointed!

We liked Dale End House very much. It was very cosy, warm and comfortable and very tastefully furnished. Situated in the Peak District it is absolutely peaceful. Sarah and Paul are very friendly and relaxed hosts, even helping them out with coins for parking in the city. The breakfast was delicious. We liked the little peacock family looking through the window in the morning and the ducks and chickens running around. 1 or 2 weeks there could do in perfectly recovering in mind, soul and body (by the walks in the surroundings). We hope very much to come back.

We've always been very happy with Sawday's recommendations; and Dale End House is no exception! Even the peacock and Floss, the dog, will make you feel at home. The Lodge is cozy yet very comfortable with ample space, perfect for when the weather isn't kind. Sarah & Paul are great and relaxed hosts, who will help you to make the stay as tranquil or active as you want it to be. Blissfully remote, but perfectly located in the centre of the Peaks to cover all the attractions and sights easily. They just opened more rooms in the barn, so good luck! We loved it. I love going to this idyllic rural retreat so much that I've been 5/6 times since discovering it 3 years ago. The Lodge is a perfect place for walkers and a quiet weekend away. The owners, Sarah and Paul, are very welcoming and really make you feel at home. The Lodge is gorgeous being beautifully decorated, clean, warm and cosy. I could happily live there! Dogs are welcome and I've even taken my horse and enjoyed riding on the bridlepaths nearby (great for a canter). There's always entertainment provided by the ducks & chucks & as a pair of magnificent peacocks. Highly recommended!
