The
Experience

Welcome to a barn of understated elegance, in an idyllic Peaks village with its own sweet green and the best pub in England a stagger from the door. On a lane with cottages around, the barn has been immaculately renovated by Robert and Jo who do B&B in the manor house down the road. This is an ‘upside down’ cottage in whites, greys and eggshell blues, with bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs and living spaces up. Downstairs is serene, up is a wow! At the top of the stairs, beneath high rafters on plain planked floors, is the room where the village dances took place. Today the boards are painted, the lighting is atmospheric, the furnishings are divine, and the kitchen is country slick, with stools for sociable cooking and a rocking chair for character. There’s a cosy mid-century style armchair for reading, a fire basket stuffed with logs, and faded dried hydrangeas exquisitely arranged. Walks and stately homes abound: Mill Dale, Hall Dale, Dovedale, Ilam Park… Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Little Moreton, Calke Abbey. For lovers of serenity and beauty it doesn’t get better than this. Bliss for grown-ups.
