The Experience

A lovely Georgian farmhouse, set in a glorious valley with infinite sky and distant Cumbrian hills. The wood, the stone, the honesty of the structure create an enveloping, peaceful retreat. Layered on to this lovely house is deep comfort and more than a touch of luxury. The hunting lodge-style sitting room has a log fire, antlers, woollen sofas and the beautiful beamed dining room has seating for a small crowd. Bedrooms sport original fireplaces, too, and have polished wooden floors, gorgeous wallpapers and spoiling fabrics. Both bathrooms are super stylish. Richard and Debbie are the loveliest hosts – they live in an adjacent barn and have thought of everything, generously leaving fluffy robes, thick towels, Barbours and wellies to borrow, drinks in the honesty bar in the dairy and a welcome basket bursting with local goodies and champagne. The large range cooker will excite keen cooks and the not so keen can easily find their way to the pub across the fields or just ask Debbie to arrange for caterers to whip something up. Simply heaven. Take Angel Barn and Shepherd’s Cottage, too, and come with 16 friends.

Reviews

We had a lovely week away in a beautiful house. Great attention to detail house is well presented and equipped. Lovely welcome hamper on arrival and friendly hosts. We would definitely love to visit and stay again in this ideallic setting in the most beautiful countryside.

Jo, Rochester

Beautiful family stay in the Farmhouse. Perfect setting for a relaxing break in a farmhouse full of original features and character. There is everything that you need and more. Loved the log burner and open fires. Upon arrival, the house was perfectly clean and well presented, including a champagne welcome basket and birthday cake with candles . Superb views across the fields filled with sheep and lambs, across to the hills.

Kristina, West Butterwick

The farmhouse is a wonderful, charming and well-equipped house. It is decorated and furnished to a level not often seen in holiday-rental properties. It is conveniently situated in a lovely part of Cumbria, close by is the quintessential village of Ravenstonedale. I have been staying there, with friends since 2014 and have frequented the house on many occasion's since. It is so charming and relaxing and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone

Andy, Eccleston

A really special place( shepherds Cottage especially) all of which works better than our own home ie heating!! I also brought a full set group to all three houses and Debbie and Richard leave no details unaddressed, from the freshly laid eggs to the bath oils and homemade cake on arrival.,my husband doesn’t ‘do’ travel and he wanted to live there....

Amanda, Chipping Norton

A fabulous way to spend a weekend away celebrating 30th birthdays! A spectacular setting and lovely Farmhouse. We were made very welcome and will certainly look to return soon!

Local points of interest from Debbie & Richard Greaves

  • Champagne welcome hamper, full of home-made & local treats: our own eggs, juice, milk and home-made sourdough bread for breakfast, sweet & savoury nibbles for the evening, award winning home-made cake and a bottle of fizz!
  • Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and only 30 minutes away from for a day out in the Lake District, or why not just walk from the door - lots of routes to take and not a soul to be seen for miles!
  • There are two Special Places to Eat & Drink Nearby - The Kings Head Hotel and The Black Swan, both of which are in Ravenstonedale village. The Fat Lamb Inn within walking distance across the fields (10% off food), another four pubs within a 10 minute drive
  • Riding, mountain bikes, outdoor adventures, fishing lessons, cookery classes, paragliding, clay pigeon shooting can all be arranged nearby.
  • Visit Kirkby Lonsdale, a small town brimming with independent boutique shops & cafes, or Sedbergh, the ‘book town’ of the north, dotted with antique shops too. Kirkby Stephen is a great tourist town, only 10 minutes drive away.
  • Large it up: bring all your friends (up to 16) and take over Angel Barn & Shepherd's Cottage on a self catering basis. Or why not have your own 'private chef' - catered meals can be arranged through some great companies nearby.
