The Experience

A heavenly hideaway for couples in a glorious corner of the world, coddled between the Lakes and the Dales. You approach through a charming walled garden, then straight into the kitchen with its flagged floor, red Aga, lovely beams and glorious view. Snuggle by the wood-burner (logs on the house) in the beamed sitting room with your very generous welcome basket: champagne, locally made chocolates, homemade bread and cake, all you need for breakfast, and a mini honesty bar with beers, wines and spirits. Upstairs to your oak beamed bedroom and bathroom: the handmade king-size bed is spoiling (with choice of feather or fibre pillows), so too the bathroom with ruby red roll top, thick white towels, robes and large shower. Debbie’s creative flair makes the whole place sparkle, and outside you get another red roll top, front and back gardens to follow the sunshine. Walk across fields to the pub for supper, head back for a cosy night in. Great for romantic couples who want privacy, but you can also take other properties – The Shepherd’s Cottage and The Farmhouse are attached, Angel Barn and helpful owners are nearby.

Reviews

We loved this so much we booked to come back next year as soon as we got home. It is one of the best places we have ever stayed. The views were stunning with great walks from the doorstep. The cottage was immaculate yet cosy with loads of character and little details. The attention to detail and level of service was excellent. We had everything we needed. It was obvious a lot of care and effort had gone into everything. The welcome hamper was also great. Generous hosts, fantastic accommodation, great setting- what more could you want? Highly recommend it.

This is the most wonderful place in which to unwind and relax. Wonderful welcome hamper, stunning scenery, lovely walks from the door and a very warm welcome from Debbie and Richard. Shepherd's Cottage is furnished to an exceptionally high standard and it is in a quiet stunning location. We can't recommend it highly enough. This was our second stay and we will definitely be back as it is our go to place to rest and recuperate.

Julie, Fareham

As soon as we entered the shepherds cottage we felt a real sense of home from home.' Everything has been so carefully thought out, to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It really was superb in every way, from start to finish...The quality of materials used and the little personal touches gave it the wow factor. There was even the addition of a beautiful Christmas tree, which had been lovingly decorated for us to enjov. We wouldn't hesitate in returning ...a real find. I wish it was ours!!

Sue, Buckinghamshire

Had the most perfect weekend at the shepherds cottage. Felt like such a treat, with the gorgeous hamper, two bath tubs and robes to mooch around in. The most cosy cottage with amazing views and lots of lovely touches, super comfy bed too. Hope to return again soon!

Louise, London

We had the most wonderful holiday in Shepherd’s Cottage - an idyllic place in which to really relax and enjoying the stunning scenery. The standard of the cottage was excellent with amazing attention to detail and we loved the two contained patios - it was lovely to know your dog was secure. One of the best holidays we have ever had. We have already booked for next year.

Julie, Hampshire

Spending time here was an absolute delight! The attention to detail is fantastic. We recommend *Outside baths - they are a must and fabulous when the barn owl is swooping around. *Just go and explore the countryside - the views are amazing. *The hamper! * Make time for a meal at The Black Swan - fabulous! We will definitely be coming back to this wonderful cottage. Well done on creating this unique experience.

Beautiful cosy cottages in the Yorkshire dales. We have a fab time and wished we could stay for longer. We will definitely be returning!

Ben, Chagford

We have just returned from a midweek break in the Shepherd's Cottage - it was the most relaxing, special and beautiful place that we've ever stayed. We couldn't find a single fault, so many extra touches that made the trip memorable. The location is perfect, views spectacular and home comforts superb. This place has boutique 5 star hotel suite standards - in fact it's better than that. Have traveled far and wide and this place has just moved in to my top locations, loved it.

Carey, Rushden

What a find! Ideal for a romantic getaway - was just perfect for my boyfriend & I, as we were celebrating our first anniversary the week after Christmas. Everything you could wish for and more. From the Aga to the log burner - keeping the whole place cosy. The bedroom upstairs with the huge handmade wooden bed was so comfy. Add to this, the hamper treats left for us - champagne, chocs, homemade bread & cake, local eggs, butter, etc. It's clear that Debbie & Richard have worked hard on this place, & we definitely want to return. Thank you!

Local points of interest from Debbie & Richard Greaves

  • Champagne Welcome Hamper, full of homemade & local treats: our own eggs, milk, home-made sourdough bread for breakfast, homemade cake for afternoon tea and of course a bottle of fizz!
  • There are two Special Places to Eat & Drink nearby - The Kings Head Hotel and The Black Swan, both of which are in Ravenstonedale village. The Fat Lamb is a quirky country inn within walking distance (4 fields!) and another four within a 10 minute drive.
  • Riding, mountain bikes, outdoor adventures, fishing lessons, cookery classes, paragliding, clay pigeon shooting can all be arranged nearby. We are situated in the recently extended Yorkshire Dales National Park and just a short drive away from the Lakes.
  • Walking galore! Smardale Gill Nature Reserve is a 7 mile walk, over a stunning disused railway bridge, see red squirrels along the way. Wander up to the Limestone Pavements, just a 15 minute stroll away. Find hidden wild swimming pools in the fells.
  • Kirkby Lonsdale is a boutique shopper's heaven, perfect for a mooch followed by afternoon tea. There's a shop to suit everyone! Or try Sedbergh, the book town of the north, dotted with antique shops too.
  • Large it up: bring all your friends (up to 16) and take over the The Farmhouse (sleeps 8) & Angel Barn (sleeps 6) too. Perfect for large family celebrations. Catered meals can be delivered.
