Reviews

Marvellous hospitality in a wonderful location. The ensuite room we had was large with magnificent views (including Barn Owl) and very comfy bed. Tea and homemade cake on arrival, with delightful hosts. Excellent breakfast. Ideally situated for an overnight stay between Southern England and the Scottish Highlands.

An absolutely lovely place to stay. We were given the warmest welcome, treated like friends from the moment we arrived. The house is a study in period elegance, with beautiful views. Very highly recommended.

Robin, Wallingford

I cannot speak highly enough of this lovely house. The rooms are so comfortable, location beautiful and restful. The hosts were amazing in their willingness to make my stay enjoyable in every way.

Liz, Llafranc

What an incredible place. Lovely walks. Attentive hosts. Beautiful lodgings, breakfasts and views. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Don, Cirencester

My two daughters and I were treated to the most wonderful afternoon and morning at Hawksdale Lodge with our hosts, Lorraine & Martyn (and family dog, Kit). So many aspects stand out that made our stay extraordinary but I will mention a few: our relaxing welcome tea & cakes, our truly glorious breakfast, our walk with Kit, our conversations with our hosts, our luxurious beds & bathrooms, the impeccable home & furnishings - it's difficult to name everything that we loved. We will return to Hawksdale on a future trip. This was a very special experience for us. Thank you, Lorraine & Martyn!

This place exceeded our expectations in every regard, the location, the room, the hosts, Lorraine and Martyn, and, of course the breakfasts, especially the baking. Thank you for a perfect short break

Roger, Settle

Lovely location, a warm welcome on arrival. The room and bathroom were very well equipped and comfortable. Breakfast was a feast of locally sourced ingredients and home baking. Would definitely recommend to friends

The location of the Hawksdale Lodge is fabulous - set down a quiet lane with birds and sheep providing the background music. Lorraine and Martyn couldn't be more welcoming or concerned about the comfort of your stay. Breakfast is wonderful and served to order. We stayed in the apartment - beautiful, calm décor, fully equipped kitchen (not that we used it), top-of-the range bedlinen and towels, and fabulous toiletries.

Jan, St clement

Couldn't have hoped for better hospitality, a better breakfast or a better setting. Only was able to stay one night but could happily have stayed a month. Faultless in every respect. If you're looking for a quiet base from which to explore the lakes or northern Pennines, look no further.

Andy, Newbury

A short break for my husband's birthday was made very special by Lorraine and Martyn. We booked a supper for our first night, the food was superb, and the dining room was delightful with it's open fire and beautiful table setting. Breakfasts were gorgeous and different every morning, and our room (en-suite) was spacious and comfortable. Fabulous setting for a romantic weekend.

Rachel, Lancaster

We enjoyed excellent hospitality on a wet windy November evening. Lovely house with original features, wonderful home made chocolate Guinness cake on arrival, spacious comfortable room with fabulous views, brilliant shower, Herdwick sheep in the paddocks, Craster kippers and home made preserves for breakfast. We could happily have stayed longer and will visit again.

Nicky, Shropshire

Wonderful warm welcome, apartment has a warm homely feel with everything that you need. Lorraine went out of her way on our wedding day, helping my wife dress, taking photographs of us both. Most amazingly when we came back from our wedding, Lorraine had left champagne, wedding cakes and even rose petals on the bed....She definitely made our day feel even more special. We will certainlY return as the hosts are incredible and the views spectacular.

Lorraine and Martyn have created a very special place to stay. Everything - and I mean everything - about Hawksdale Lodge is perfect. Whatever it is you are looking for in a B and B I am confident that you will find it here; charming hosts, stunning location, a beautifully decorated home, spacious and spotless bedrooms, luxury toiletries, delicious home baking on arrival, the perfect breakfast - it's all here. I can't promise that the barn owl will make an appearance but he did when we stayed. As I said, a magical place to stay!

Ellen

This was a beautifully decorated and furnished place with wonderful gardens and views. Our stay was completed by the welcome and attention to detail of expert hosts who have obviously invested considerable time and thought into making their guests feel entirely comfortable. An experience to be remembered!

My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic 3-night stay at Hawksdale Lodge - supremely comfortable and welcoming with the best breakfasts we have ever eaten. Lorraine and Martyn were extremely helpful with our planning for local visits, from railway times to restaurant recommendations. This is a wonderful base for exploring - we loved Carlisle, the unusual gem of Wreay church, and the Settle/Carlisle railway. It's a perfect base en route for Scotland where we were heading next.

I had the pleasure of staying at Hawksdale Lodge for two wonderful days and nights, and I have to say the hospitality from start to finish was second to none. Lorraine is incredibly passionate about her business which is reflected in every single aspect of running this beautiful house. The rooms are sublime, the breakfasts are simply stunning..., and all this overlooking the most idyllic Cumbrian countryside. The extra special touches and the caring service received leaves me in no doubt that I will return to enjoy this remarkable bed and breakfast. Jonathan.

Lorraine is one of those types of people that strive for perfection in everything she does and it shows. The rooms are superbly presented, beds comfortable and the views breathtaking. Breakfast was a sublime foray into home cooking and local produce again provided with the utmost care. I have stayed at over 100 B&Bs and hotels across our green isle over the last 15 years and most pale in comparison to the wonderful Hawksdale Lodge.
