Rooms sleep 2

At the end of a long drive with panoramic views… a peaceful farm with open doors, tea and cake waiting. It’s been in the family for generations; find slate floors, Mike’s beautiful green oak furniture, original art, books and beams. Colourful bedrooms have tip-top linen on brass beds; Peasland suite has space for children, a huge bathroom and a balcony for catching the evening sun. Ruth’s breakfasts are delicious: homemade granola and jams, halloumi with thyme-baked tomatoes, local bacon platters. She’s passionate about the area too – find out about events, borrow maps, roam woodland and fields, explore Pennines and Lakes.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Ruth Tuer

  • Our farm is high up in the heart of Cumbria, surrounded by extensive views over the Westmorland Dales.
  • The house has a relaxed informality, peaceful, and with plenty of room to find your own space. Surrounded by stunning self-guided walks and bike trails that are both quiet and challenging.
  • Exploring by car is easy if you like lakes, mountains, tiny villages, gorgeous views, local shops, award winning pubs or beautiful castles. This is an area of great antiquity with about 90 sites of prehistoric village settlements nearby.
  • Walk the many varied footpaths that radiate from our farm, or increasingly our local area is becoming a mecca for cyclists, they really love the challenges of the varied altitudes, quiet roads, wonderful views and great pubs around the next corner!
  • We are in the Yorkshire Dales on the edge of The Lake District boasting England's highest land mass including its highest mountain as well as the deepest and longest lakes!
  • A 15-minute drive from M6 junctions 38 or 39, or from Appleby the A66. Also 3 ½ hours from London by train.
