Windermere, Cumbria

A peaceful, well thought out base for Lake District forays. Space, warmth and comfort for couples to unwind after a day out in the wilds

Sleeps 2

Welcome to your own wing of this pretty Lakeland house with sunny garden. You have a private entrance to the ground floor: a single space, uncluttered, toasty warm and utterly soothing.  At one end, a sparkling white kitchen occupies a corner, right next to a demure dining area with room for four. A basket of food essentials – complete with a bottle of wine to take the edge off – sets the tone for your stay.  The living room occupies the rest of the space – squashy sofas, decent lighting for reading and a big screen for flopping in front of after a hard day of walking. Nip up the stairs and you’re straight into the large bedroom, decked out with down pillows and duvet, pale wood furniture and pretty floor length curtains to keep out any chill. The bathroom is a gem – an ultra modern bath and walk in shower, all tiled in gleaming marble and with underfloor heating. Friendly owners Steve and Louise live in the main house – they’re there if you need them, but happy to leave you to your own devices. Despite the peace and quiet, you’re only a brief stroll from Windermere and busy Bowness.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Louise & Stephen Broughton

  • What can we say? Bang in the heart of a World Heritage Site! A 6 min stroll to the lakeshore and buzzy Bowness, with lots of nice places to eat, upmarket shops, and a cinema and theatre. Boats ply the lake constantly - leave the car!
  • A short trot and you'll find Brantfell, our very own mountain! 15 minutes upwards and the most spectacular views await - a wonderful stretch north and south of lake Windermere, and the glorious fells - bring your boots - we provide the picnic basket.
  • The lake district positively brims with wonderful things to see and do, far too many to mention here - from museums and old and glorious houses to via ferrata, and mountain goat mini bus trips ( pick up from your door) to Segway and magnificent gardens
  • Hate packing the car with food? Just order Tesco or Sainsbury's online to arrive on the morning of your arrival day, and we'll unpack and stash it all in the right spot. You'll also arrive to find cosy lamps glowing and the heating on - all toasty Hurrah!
  • Active? Sailing kayaking rowing paddle boarding hiking walking climbing horse riding hire a bike hop on a Segway trot a treetop walk whizz down a zip wire hop on a helicopter golf tennis
  • Not so active? Mooch round a plethora of lovely shops, explore pretty Lakeland villages stop for a scrummy lunch or afternoon tea in castles, Michelin starred hotels or tiny caffs.
