The
Experience

The glorious coast road from St Ives to St Just has been named the most scenic in the UK, and just off it you’ll find a very old farmhouse in two walled acres overlooking the sea.

Artistic Gilly has created a haven full of original art, for writers, artists and nature lovers. Wild and wuthering in winter, pretty as a picture and teeming with flora and fauna in the summer.

There are long views, secluded Portheras Cove just a two-mile stroll away and an open fire ready to welcome you home. Peaceful nights roll into relaxed mornings and breakfasts of organic and home-produced treats, including eggs from Gilly’s hens and home-made marmalade.

Next door you’ll find Yew Tree Gallery where Gilly curates exhibitions and hosts art, yoga and meditation courses. This idyllic spot is ideal for creative escapes, romantic retreats and peaceful family getaways.

Reviews

I had a wonderful stay at Gilly's farmhouse. Her welcome is warm and friendly and the house is full of interesting and inspiring works of art. If you enjoy the remote landscape as I do and want a very comfortable stay in a beautiful old and unspoilt house, then this is for you! Gilly's cooked breakfasts and her attention to detail made it all feel extra special and amazingly good value.

Location

The neighbourhood

The farmhouse is on the beautiful coast road from St Ives to St Just. Explore Portheras Cove, a rocky and sandy beach just a two to three mile walk away and the ancient sites that abound on the moors above. Pendeen is the nearest village (two miles away) with pubs and a shop. The small town of St Just (four miles away) is a thriving centre with plenty of good food shops, pubs, cafes and galleries.

Local points of interest from Gilly Wyatt-Smith

  • Portheras Cove is a sandy beach a mere walk away from the farmhouse. On the way you walk through a farmyard resplendent with geese, turkeys, cockerels and pigs! The high cliff above the beach is a good spot to muse whilst watching the sunset.
  • Keigwin nestles among the Penwith moors which abound with ancient sites, dating back to the Stone Age. Chun Quoit and Chun Castle are an easy walk from the farmhouse. From the top of the moor, the peninsula looks like an island!
  • Musn't forget a topical allusion....POLDARK was filmed all round this coast. The mines at Botallack (3 miles away) feature strongly in the new TV series.
  • We are very close to the South West Coast path here - so you can walk round to Land's End if you so wish, with the dramatic Atlantic at your side the whole way!
  • The Minack Theatre is another nearby attraction. Designed like an amphitheatre with the sea as backdrop, the theatre is open from May to September and overlooks the spectacular Porthcurno and Pedn Vounder beaches where the sea is translucent.

Introducing

Gilly Wyatt-Smith

Gilly escaped land-locked Derbyshire to a wild and elemental coast of West Cornwall reminiscent of the Welsh island she grew up on. Her energy and affection for her environment is infectious and she used this energy to renovate Keigwin Farmhouse and turn an adjoining barn into Yew Tree Gallery. Here she curates exhibitions of contemporary and fine art and also opens up the gallery to dance, yoga, art and meditation courses.
