The
Experience

In a deeply rural setting, midway between the moors and the north and south coasts, this atmospheric stone barn fits the bill for families. Friendly Jo and James will be delighted to introduce the ducks, cows and sheep and you’re free to roam 110 glorious acres of fields and ancient oak woodland. Dodge the nettles and brambles and have a go at fishing their river, the Inny, for trout and the odd salmon.

Congregate for meals on the sunny terrace or indoors amongst country antiques around a table for 10 in the huge beamed living room. After a day spent out on the moors, beat a retreat to the book-lined snug and bask by the wood-burner.

Be welcomed with Jo’s freshly baked scones, home-pressed apple juice and hens’ eggs; Riverford Organics can deliver the rest. There’s a good gastropub, The Springer Spaniel, a convenient half-mile stagger away.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is a little-disturbed area of ‘Great Landscape Value’ looking out over the Tamar Valley, with views as far as Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and Kit Hill. The Springer Spaniel in the local village specialises in rustic fine dining – don’t miss its list of cocktails. While this is inland Cornwall at its best, the sandy beach at Trebarwith Strand is a 35-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Jo & James Rider

  • Guided walks round the farm.
  • Babysitting available.
  • Very well equiped for babies & children.
  • Fishing on our river (The Inny).
  • Very peaceful yet accessible setting between the moors & the coast.
  • 45 minutes away from the Eden Project.

Introducing

Jo & James Rider

Jo and James came to Cornwall to farm organically after a busy working life in London, Hong Kong and Singapore. Their land is still managed by an organic farmer, and having now retired they enjoy spending more time with their seven grandchildren, as well as their guests. They take great pleasure in seeing children running free and exploring the countryside.
