The
Experience

Drop down a quiet lane to enter your own private quay, home to a couple of lucky people and a fishing boat. It’s a privileged spot you may not wish to leave: river views from every window and a waterfront balcony from which to spy the birds and clock the tides. Inside: lots of family history and artefacts to enjoy, and a pleasing mix of new and traditional. The kitchen is a wrap-around affair: all pine units, quarry tiles and a sink with a view, and there’s a panelled ‘cabin snug’ for cosy meals. The jaunty white and blue bathroom passes the closest inspection, and bedrooms vary: a big wooden sleigh bed in one, twins or bunks in the others. You also have the option to spread out and take the super-private double room off the kitchen, reached through an internal hall with locking doors. Brunch on the balcony, try a little light rowing, take an afternoon siesta, feast on fresh fish delivered right to the quayside. Canoe, sail, borrow a motor boat, visit the Helford River gardens, set off on a clifftop walk, mosey round the art galleries of Penzance. Marvellous!

Reviews

Bishop's Quay is a lovely house in the most wonderful, magical setting on the river. Staying there feels like time stops still for a moment. It is so peaceful with birds and fishing boats for company, stunning views from every window and cosy fires at night. We have had the most relaxing and fun week with incredible walks and fantastic boating of every sort- from kayaks to sailing to motor. Ben and Kate are so welcoming in every way- they went out of their way to ensure our stay was as perfect as possible- we honestly can't wait to go back!

Henrietta

This is a lovely, cosy house in a great location. It has breathtaking views throughout the day, but especially during the sunset. The house has all the comforts that one might need. All rooms have many decorative items, loads of books, games and vases of flowers everywhere. The owners, Kate and Ben made every effort to make us feel welcome. We very much appreciated the welcome tray of cream tea and delicious flapjacks on our arrival after a long drive. My daughter loved kayaking and the boats. She is already looking forward to our next holiday at Bishops Quay.

Figen

We had a really comfortable, relaxing, enjoyable week at Bishops Quay. The location on the estuary is outstanding and the house takes full advantage of it with wonderful views of the river from every window and a wide long balcony outside the sitting room. Kate was an absolute pleasure to deal with right from the start and went out of her way to make sure we were all looked after. The house is set up in a generous, comfortable way and we enjoyed a blazing log fire each night after lovely days getting to know the local area and taking lots of pictures. Bliss!
