The
Experience
Come for the view! All you spy is sea and sand. Perched jauntily on the coastal path, this villa is minutes from sandy Porthminster Beach; and just round the corner is cool, arty St Ives. As its name implies, this is a bright and breezy place and there are no surprises inside: neutral tones, pale wood, carefully placed objects, lots of light flooding in through big windows, a kitchen with all you need. Owners Dawn and David live next door and leave you a bottle of local cider, Cornish biscuits and all the basics – including olive oil and coffee. Every morning, peep through the porthole to check on the weather and settle at the chunky wooden table for a lazy brunch while planning your day. Pack a picnic and head for the beach, take a scenic train ride to St Erth, watch seals off Mutton Cove. Dawn knows the area well and does guided walking tours around St Ives three times a week. If the sun fails to shine there are games and DVDs; when the sea is too cold, you can take to the warmer waters of the indoor swimming pool beside the owners’ house. A good family retreat with so much on the doorstep that the car may be left looking at the view!

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Dawn & David Bright
- You are right on the South West Coastal path between St Ives & Carbis Bay with beautiful walks in both directions. Head left and you're ten minutes away from Porthminster Beach. Turn right and you're five minutes from Carbis Bay beach.
- St Ives has many great restaurants, but our absolute fave is Porthmeor Beach Cafe. Go there in the evening and book one of their cool pods for fantastic tapas and the most beautiful sunsets. Or in the daytime try The Searoom - great for lunch or Cream Tea.
- Across the bay you'll be able to spy Godrevy Lighthouse and Gwithian Towans. If you want to escape the crowds in St Ives head over there and take a walk along the towans (dunes) and then miles of deserted beach. It's one of our favourite places on earth.
- St Ives has a sandy beach for everyone. Porthminster is perfect for families to play, the Harbour is fantastic in the winter - south facing and sheltered from the wind, but if you're feeling active head over to Porthmeor for surfing in the Atlantic waves.
- You may not want to leave St Ives, but if you fancy a change of scenery we love the Lizard peninsula. Park in the town then head on foot up to the stunning Kynance Cove, or take a two-hour circular walk around the peninsula. You'll have earned your swim!
- Regularly featured on TV, the branch line from St Erth to St Ives is considered one of the most beautiful railway lines in the country. Take a bus or walk to Lelant then ride the train back for stunning views as you follow the coast back to St Ives.
