The Experience

A romantic getaway for two – plus horse. You don’t have to bring the horse, of course, but there is stabling and grazing outside the door, and riding all around. Off the main road, past the redbrick houses (one of which is the delightful owners’) and there it is: a pretty little former stable, with a pitched roof and a private drive. Open the door to an open-plan, lofty and stylishly revamped space – warm, intimate and cosy. You get a little wood-burner and a basket of logs, a shimmering bedspread on a modern four-poster, a sumptuous roll top tub on creamy tiles, a smart leather sofa. Windows are screened by blinds and the separate shower room sparkles; from the organic welcome pack in the galley kitchen to the dimmer switches on the exposed brick walls, it exudes quality. Outside, a cosy arbour seat, a teak table and chairs under a plane tree, and a sheltered barbecue deck with a view of three Welsh Border castles. If you fancy eating out, there’s an excellent gastropub a two-minute walk away. If you fancy a round of golf, there’s a course over the road – and a fabulous spa attached for yet more pampering.

What a beautiful place to stay. A perfect place for a work meeting or a romantic getaway. So many people said ‘just what we needed’ in the visitors book; I said a stay at Barton should be on prescription.

Jackie, Portsmouth

After a few hours spent exploring the Sandstone Trail from the starting point of the medieval Beeston Castle, what could be more relaxing then to rest your weary legs sitting outside under the shelter of the cottage's oak garden structure? Glass of chilled wine or the local brew in hand, watching the owners' horses graze peacefully in their field in front of you.

Wonderful in every way.

27 steps to an idyllic hideaway for two! Snug but oh so perfectly formed with everything you could ever need for a romantic getaway for two. Tranquil, cozy, and welcoming, we felt ‘at home’ almost from the minute we arrived. We received a warm friendly welcome from the owner but this was never intrusive and he was extremely helpful in ‘local knowledge’. The ‘breakfast pack’ was superb! Generous, and catered for all tastes. I cannot wait to return in the near future and wouldnt hesitate to recommend Barton Bank Cottage to everyone I know!

Brilliant. 4 days of peaceful tranquility. No traffic noise, well appointed cottage. Owners very friendly but left you to your own devices. Will definately be booking again.
