Deep copper baths, fibre optic chandeliers, a snug cinema for Sunday afternoons, a chic up-cycled bar for cocktails – that’s what you find at this gorgeous country-house hotel. It’s all the result of a remarkable renovation that blends old and new to great effect, and wherever you go something beautiful catches the eye: a curved mahogany door, polished wood floors, classical and contemporary art. Views from the front door stretch out over rolling hills. At the back, a large kitchen garden climbs up to fields, beyond which woodland walks wait. Back inside, you find high ceilings, vast windows, period colours and hungry wood-burners. Lamps hang in the restaurant, where you dig into local or home-grown food, perhaps game terrine, spicy cod, sticky toffee pudding. Fabulous rooms wait above. Four at the back are smaller and come with planked bedheads and garden views. Those at the front are bigger, with king-size beds, copper baths, perhaps a walk-in shower; all have robes and smart TVs. An outdoor pool is coming soon; beehives, a biomass boiler, and a whisky bar all wait, as does vibrant Bristol. Don’t miss it.
