The Experience

In the hamlet of St Catherine, a gorgeous wooden cabin with a babbling brook at the bottom of the garden. Accessed up a private track and surrounded by fields and woodland, this is an enchanting rural escape where you can pick apples from the orchard and get the wood-burner blazing with complimentary logs from the garden. Inside rustic chic reigns – sheepskins, reclaimed floorboards, floral sofas and an artist’s easel give a cosy and creative feel. A kitchen is equipped with all the essentials; you can eat in the open-plan living space or out on the veranda on sunny days. Sleep peacefully in a snug double room with a cabin bed: there’s a sofabed and single day bed too. In the garden willow, hazel, ash and field maple give shade, while spring bulbs and wildflowers burst with colour and scent; here wooden benches are scattered with colourful cushions and you can immerse yourself in birdsong and peace. Though you could happily retreat from the world, there’s wonderful walking from the front door, good local pubs and shopping and culture only a couple of miles away in Bath.

Reviews

The tea pavilion was wonderful. Such a beautiful and peaceful setting. I told Rowan we were coming for my partner's birthday and we arrived to some delicious cupcakes! It is the perfect escape from the city. So lovely to put the wood burner on and just relax all weekend. Would definitely recommend!

We had such a fantastic stay at the tea pavilion. We had the perfect mix of being only 15-20 minutes drive to Bath but being completely isolated in a beautiful peaceful setting. We loved our walk to Bath and the great Christmas market, the outdoor shower and the comfort of a great wood burning stove and little WiFi reception meant it’s the perfect place to relax, switch off and just enjoy the setting. Rowan gave such helpful advice and made our stay so lovely. We have a 10 month old daughter and Rowan made sure a travel cot and high chair were in place when we arrived. Just wonderful x

Lovely building in a lovely setting, and so close to Bath.

Richard, Oxford

A beautiful and peaceful setting that is very private offering the perfect location to relax with family and friends.

Stuart, London

Such a special place- beautiful, calm and restful inside and out. Located in a very attractive area close to Bath. It is well and thoughtfully equipped for the perfect relaxing stay. Just what we needed!

The Tea Pavillion is a truly enchanting place - it feels a million miles from the hustle and stress of normal life and everything is designed to make your time there perfectly relaxing. From the gorgeous tea (naturally!) and cake provided by Rowan, to the beautiful bed linens and indulgent bathroom - all striking the perfect balance between luxury and back-to-nature rustic. We can’t wait to go back!

Laura, Cambridge

A haven for relaxation. Green all around you, birdsong. fresh air and a running stream in front of the pavilion make a very private, healing, intimate retreat. I want to return again and again.

We had a wonderful stay at the Tea Pavilion - magical place, so pretty and comfortable and as if we were a million miles from the rest of the world. But in reality we walked to Bath and it was easy access from the M4. Despite the snow in March, the wood burner kept us cosy. We'd love to return in summer for the full year round experience! Rowen was also a wonderful host.

Oh my goodness!! We had our wedding reception here on 30th August 1986 - so it is our 30th wedding anniversary this Tuesday!! It was delightful, enchanting and will remain one of the most wonderful days of my life - a truly wonderful setting and made for a totally perfect d. I'm so delighted it's opened again - I hope many others will experience the magical setting The Mead offers!!

Alexandra, Bath

A wonderful place to stay - the best of both worlds. The buzz and culture of Bath nearby and the peace and tranquil setting of the Tea Pavilion itself to savour. One of the best places I've stayed - simply beautiful.

Carmel, Sutton coldfield

We chose this as the location for our 10th Wedding anniversary getaway. If you want to get away from modern life connectivity but keep all the creature comforts this is the place to come ! It's simply beautiful, from the welcome to the surroundings, it is impossible to not totally switch off here and it all makes it very hard to leave. Brilliantly equipped for when you're in and on the doorstep of so much to make you want to go out . We absolutely cannot wait to return.

Simon, London

A beautiful and tranquil location with an outside shower, an amazing experience night or day. Rowan and Mikey have an eye for detail inside the cottage and outside. Beautifully decorated, all the utensils you need and an amazing log fire. We spent our first breakfast on veranda watching nature enjoying the peace and quiet. The beautiful city of Bath is just 4 miles away- you can walk to it along the river in 45 minutes.

Local points of interest from Rowan Suenson-Luke

  • Stroll along the lane into the village to fill a basket with produce from the Rich's market garden farm shop in pretty Northend or meander into the secluded valley to view the Tudor estate of St Catherine's Court, tithe barn and chapel.
  • For the authentic Bath experience take a few hours at the Thermae Spa to immerse in the healing waters and spend an evening star gazing from the warm roof top pool.
  • Explore the footpaths that lace the valley; the Limestone Link brushes the doorstep and if you'd like a watering hole along the way, follow the brook, the river, and the canal into Bath, stop at Gather organic cafe,The Bathhampton Mill or Cafe on The Barge
  • For a lazy mooch around Bath's cool shops and markets try Walcot, Green Park or Broad Street for unique independents, start with a delicious Boston Tea Party breakfast, pop in to indulge in specialist coffee shop Society or recharge with juice from Cascara
  • For some hearty days out Dyrham Park, The Holbourne Museum, The American Museum, The Jane Austen Centre, The Fashion Museum are all a short drive away and Westonbirt and Longleat only a little further,
  • There's no need to go anywhere at all; if you'd like to wind down, this is the most pleasant bolt hole to burrow down and chill in!
