Stay with a keen cook and gardener in their cosy Georgian house near Bath: be spoiled with fresh flowers, home-grown veg, tea in the garden

Georgian gentility in a village near Bath. This is where the rector would live in an Austen novel: it’s handsome, respectable, and the feel extends inside, where convivial hosts Frances (a keen cook) and Martin (keen gardener) put you at ease in their elegant home. The creamy guest sitting room gleams with period furniture, the dining room is panelled and parqueted, fresh flowers abound. The two bedrooms – one with en suite shower, one with a private bath – are compact but detailed with antiques. Take tea in the neat walled garden, admire the vegetable patch, then taste the spoils in one of Frances’s fine suppers.
